Sourdough Discard Crackers
Sourdough Discard Crackers
Alright ya’ll, we have another recipe that will eliminate something from the grocery store! These sourdough discard crackers are a great way to use up your discard. It is a simple process that does not take much time at all. With a few simple ingredients you will create a great homemade snack.
Ingredients for Sourdough Discard Crackers
This makes a small batch, but it will give you the correct ratios to make a larger one.
- 2 cups of sourdough discard (this can be fed or unfed discard)
- 2 TBSP melted butter
- Good pinch of salt
- Seasoning of choice, we like everything but the bagel seasoning
Directions for Sourdough Discard Crackers
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- In a large bowl mix you salt, sourdough discard and butter
- Pour your mixture onto the parchment paper
- For a crispy cracker, spread this as thin as you can. If they are too thick, they are more like pita chips and not the best texture
- Once your discard mixture is spread, sprinkle with your favorite seasoning
- Put in the oven
- Half way through the cooking process take your cookie sheet out of the oven. Grab a pizza cutter and score your crackers. This is so they break into cracker shapes when they are done
- Bake until they are golden brown, as every oven is different
- Once crackers are cool (if you can wait that long) break apart and store in a jar
Variations to These Sourdough Discard Crackers
I think a “Cheez it” version would be delicious. You could add any type of cheese to your discard mixture to achieve this. Gouda, parmesan, cheddar, white cheddar, oh the possibilities! Get creative and enjoy cooking from scratch.
These will keep for a while in an airtight container…..but you will not need to worry about them because they won’t last that long! Our boys polished these off pretty quick!
We hope you try this recipe and enjoy it. Happy cooking friends!
