Dutch Baby

Dutch Baby

A Dutch Baby is a protein packed breakfast idea that will surely help use up those yard eggs that you are swimming in. This recipe is super versatile. My boys tend to like the traditional plain recipe but the options are limitless! You can add nuts, berries, bananas, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and the list could go on. Now this recipe will fill a 10 inch cast iron skillet. For my brood of boys, I double the recipe which will fill my trusty 12 inch skillet.

Dutch baby

Ingredients for a Dutch Baby

6 eggs

1 cup of milk

1 cup of AP flour

2 tsp vanilla

1 pinch salt

1/4 cup of sugar or stevia (you can even use honey)

cinnamon to taste

3 TBSP butter (this is not added to batter)

Directions for Cooking a Dutch Baby

Place 3 TBSP butter from ingredient list in to cast iron skillet. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and put skillet and butter in oven while it preheats.

Mix all listed ingredients in a bowl being sure to remove any clumps

When oven and skillet are preheated, remove from oven. Add your batter and cook for about minutes. Every oven is different, use a toothpick to determine when yours is done.

The Dutch baby will puff up while cooking and collapse some when removed from oven.

Now the Fun Part!

You can top your Dutch Baby with powdered sugar, syrup, cinnamon butter, fruit, really whatever you want. I hope you enjoy it!
